Hypnotherapy for menopause hot flushes and night sweats
Clinical hypnosis is recommended by The Menopause Society as an evidence-based, non-hormonal option for reducing hot flushes and night sweats.

How hypnotherapy helps with menopause symptoms
Hot flushes and night sweats can be exhausting. They interrupt sleep, arrive at the worst moments at work, and leave many women feeling they are no longer in charge of their own body. Broken sleep then makes stress, low mood and concentration harder to manage.
Clinical hypnosis is recommended by The Menopause Society (2023) as an evidence-based non-hormonal option for reducing hot flushes and night sweats. Its 2023 position statement on non-hormonal therapies gives clinical hypnosis its highest level of evidence (Level I), alongside CBT. In a 2013 randomised controlled trial of 187 women, five weekly hypnosis sessions reduced hot flush frequency by 74% on average, compared with 17% in the comparison group, with similar results on physiological monitoring.
In the UK, NICE's menopause guideline (NG23) recommends CBT for hot flushes and night sweats and does not mention hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for HRT or other medical treatment. Speak to your GP about all your options, including HRT. Some women are looking for a non-hormonal option; others use hypnotherapy alongside HRT. Your GP can help you weigh up what suits you.
What we work on
- Reducing how often hot flushes happen and how intense they feel, using cooling imagery and suggestion
- Night sweats and getting back to sleep
- Staying calm when a flush starts at work or in public
- Stress, irritability and anxiety during this stage of life
- Confidence and feeling like yourself again
- Daily self-hypnosis practice, which was part of the research approach
How sessions work
We begin with a free 15–30 minute consultation by phone or video. Sessions are in person at 9 Coldbath Square, Farringdon, or online. Tim tailors each session to your symptoms and preferences, using Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP, and gives you self-hypnosis to practise each day between sessions.
Why Tim

Can I have hypnotherapy if I am taking HRT?
Yes. Hypnotherapy works alongside HRT and other treatments. Keep taking anything prescribed unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Is it suitable if I can't or don't want to take HRT?
Clinical hypnosis is one of the non-hormonal options The Menopause Society recommends. Please discuss your choices with your GP.
Does it help with other menopause symptoms?
The strongest research is for hot flushes and night sweats. Clients also work on sleep, stress and confidence. Symptoms such as heavy or irregular bleeding, or very low mood, should be checked by your GP.
