About me: Tim Dunton

A writing desk with an open notebook, tea and psychology books

I'm Tim Dunton, the hypnotherapist behind Central London Hypnotherapy. I'm an Advanced and Ericksonian Hypnotherapist, a Master Practitioner of NLP and a coach. It is a one-person practice, so the person you speak to at the free consultation is the person you will work with.

Why I do this work

I began training in hypnotherapy in 2004 and I have kept learning ever since. Psychology and personal development are the subjects I would be reading about anyway.

For a time I ran a hypnotherapy training company, then moved on to other business interests. A period of illness made me stop and rethink my priorities. I decided to take something positive from it and come back to hypnotherapy, using what I had been through to understand and help other people.

I have had my own ups and downs, and I have used the same techniques I now teach to work through them. That experience matters to me as much as any certificate.

Who I work with

Over more than 20 years I have worked with many hundreds of clients from all walks of life: children just starting out, everyday people wanting more from life, business leaders, film producers, sportsmen and women, and well-known celebrities.

Corporate work

For a global TV release, I worked with Samsung on a project helping cast members to see things afresh, without stress and anxiety. My clients include multinational companies as well as individuals.

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Nobody gets a script read to them: sessions are built around you and what you want to change.

Training and background

Advanced and Ericksonian hypnotherapy

My approach is rooted in the Ericksonian tradition: conversational, indirect and tailored to the individual. I have been influenced by the work of Milton Erickson, Ernest Rossi and Stephen Brooks.

Master Practitioner of NLP

I trained separately with both co-founders of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Richard Bandler and John Grinder, and with other trainers in the field including Carmen Bostic St Clair, Michael Carroll, Stephen Gilligan and Bill Phillips.

Life and executive coaching

Some clients come not to change a problem but to work towards a goal: a career move, a performance or a change of direction. Coaching helps with that.

Mindfulness

I have studied Buddhism, Advaita, mindfulness and meditation, and they shape much of what I teach clients to use between sessions.

A note on what to expect

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. It is not right for every problem, and it works alongside medical care rather than replacing it. If I don't think I can help you, I will tell you at the free consultation, before you have paid for anything. Individual experiences vary.
